You are invited to our annual Arbor Day Celebration! Mrs. Striemer’s SJV 4^th grade students will perform a short program prior to assisting City Forester Chad Striemer plant a European Hornbeam tree at Charlotte Park, 401 S Dewey Street, Fairmont (west of Five Lakes Centre).  In case of inclement weather, the program will be held at the Public Works Facility located at 801 E. Margaret Street.  The Park Department would then plant the tree at a later date.

Trees are among the most beautiful and useful products of nature.  They have been cherished since ancient times.  The oxygen we breathe is released to us by trees and other green plants.  Trees provide food, shelter, medicines and keep our soil from eroding.  Let’s hear it for trees!

Tree Species Information: The European Hornbeam has densely textured foliage and handsome slate-gray smooth to fluted bark. The lush dark green leaves turn an attractive yellow in the fall. At full maturity, this beauty will have grown to a height of 40-60′ with a spread of 30-40′.  The European Hornbeam is of interest and beauty in all seasons and will be a perfect addition to our green spaces in the City of Fairmont.
