Water Aerobics

Water aerobics allows participants to reap the same benefits as on-land aerobics, and then some. Water aerobics allows a person to exercise every muscle and joint in the body all at the same time, and causes less strain and stress on joints and muscles, so almost anyone, no matter their age, can participate. Also, water aerobics are cooler for the body, especially in the summertime heat, as the water cools off the body during the entire workout. Pre-registration not required.

Deep Water Walking

If walking on a hard surface like a sidewalk is painful, try water walking at the Aquatic Park. The water’s buoyancy helps relieve joint stress and pain. Walking in water offers big benefits. For example:

  • Water’s buoyancy reduces the impact on joints.
  • Working out in the water can help improve cardiovascular fitness, balance and range of motion.
  • Heated pools can help soothe pain. Cooler temp pools might not make your joints feel as good, but you’ll still reap the workout’s benefits.
  • Water has greater resistance than air, which means walking in water requires more effort and ultimately burns more calories than walking on land.
  • Our water walking workouts take place in our diving pit, where participants have no contact with the pool’s floor and are supported by flotation belts. If you are new to water walking or can’t swim, don’t worry. Aquatic walking classes are designed for anyone, including non-swimmers.
