Job Title: Seasonal Aquatic Manager

The City of Fairmont’s Aquatics Department is seeking a dynamic, high-energy Seasonal Aquatics Manager for the 2026 season. This position will mainly be responsible for the planning, promotion, supervision, operation, and administration of the Fairmont Aquatic Park and its programs. This position trains and leads facility staff and manages tasks and resources while making sound decisions that affect the facility’s operation, staff, and patrons. The season runs from approximately early June through mid/late August and the facility is operational seven (7) days a week during that timeframe. This position must work daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Hours may vary depending on the weather, business/staffing needs, and student status. Additional hours may be required during the Aquatic Park’s off season to complete pre- and post-season work.

Minimum Qualifications
– High school diploma or equivalent
– Two years’ supervisory, lead worker, or other similar leadership experience
– Ability to lift and move 50 pounds

Additionally, a qualified individual will possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record. They will also satisfactorily pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in recreation or related field.
-One to three years’ experience in scheduling, staffing, and financing.
-Aquatic-related certifications (American Red Cross Lifeguard, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, etc.)

This position will mainly be responsible for performing grounds maintenance (including mowing, weed whipping, shrub trimming, plant watering, and picking up trash/debris) on the City’s parks and public properties; conducting inspections of and routine maintenance on small equipment; maintaining athletic fields and courts; carrying out custodial duties in parks buildings and other public works facilities; and completing other related duties as assigned.

The season runs from approximately May through mid/late August and the typical work schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on a Monday – Friday basis. This may vary depending on the weather, business needs, and student status. The City is willing to consider flexible schedule options.

Job Title: Police Officer
Salary Range: $39.88/hour – $50.57/hour
Anticipated Hiring Rate: $39.88/hour (lateral candidates may be considered for a higher starting wage, DOQ)

The City of Fairmont is seeking a full-time Police Officer to protect the citizens of Fairmont through the prevention and detection of crime. Work is conducted under the supervision of the police sergeant on duty. Please see the corresponding job description for a full list of job duties and expectations.

Fairmont is a city with a population of 10,000+ located in southern Minnesota at the intersection of I-90 and Hwy 15. Set amidst the prairie, it is surrounded by farmland and is roughly 15 square miles in size. In addition to its strong agricultural ties, Fairmont is home to a chain of five beautiful lakes and has earned the nickname “City of Lakes”. The community is very pro-law enforcement and supports the services the Fairmont Police Department (FPD) provides.

There are currently 17 full-time licensed officers. FPD also employs two full-time licensed officers to work part-time hours to help fill shifts and cover special assignments. The department offers prospective candidates a wide variety of rewarding assignments and specialized positions.

This position typically works 11.5-hour shifts. The schedule would consist of two weekends on, two weekends off.

Minimum qualifications
– Must be licensed (or eligible to be licensed) as a Peace Officer in the State of Minnesota, successfully pass POST out-of-state officer or military reciprocity exam, or currently be a student who anticipates taking the POST eligibility test by July 1, 2026.
– Must be able to meet POST Minimum Selection Standards.
– Possession of an Associate of Arts or Science degree (or higher) in law enforcement, criminal justice, or related field.

Preferred qualifications
– Previous experience as a licensed peace officer.
– Possession of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field.
– Working knowledge or fluency in a second language.
– Documented volunteer experience with a focus on working with the public.

Successful candidates must also possess a valid MN Class D Driver’s License and have a good driving record as well as satisfactorily pass a thorough criminal background check, psychological examination, and physical examination.

The City provides a competitive benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, and life/AD&D insurances; HSA and FSA spending plans; an Employee Assistance Plan service; a MN PERA benefit; and a 457(b) deferred compensation plan. Additional benefits include:
– Yearly uniform allowance of $900.00/year with initial issue provided by the FPD.
– Shift differential for hours worked between 1800 and 0600
– Starting Holidays (13), pro-rated at time of hire paid as 130 vacation hours
– Starting vacation accrual: 3.08 hours per pay period (80 hours/year)
– Starting sick leave: 120 hours/year, pro-rated at time of hire
