Job Title: Parks Maintenance Worker
Salary Range: $27.93/hour – $35.34/hour
Anticipated Hiring Range: $27.93/hour – $39.43/hour, DOQ

The City of Fairmont is looking for a Parks Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of semi-skilled technical tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds, open spaces, parks, and recreation systems. Work is conducted under general supervision within established guidelines and work schedules. Please see the corresponding job description for a full list of duties and expectations.

The typical work schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Occasional weekend work is required during the summer, and this position may be required to respond to off-duty emergencies and weather-related events.

Minimum qualifications
– High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred qualifications
– Two years of experience in grounds maintenance

Successful candidates must also possess a valid MN Class B Commercial Driver’s License or be able to obtain it within 30 days of employment.

Job Title: Community Development Director
Salary Range: $115,585.60 – $146,328.00/year
Anticipated Hiring Range: $115,585.60 – $127,982.40/year, DOQ

Reporting to the City Administrator, the Community Development Director will organize and direct the full range of the City’s community development operations as they relate to planning, zoning, and economic development; residential and commercial ordinance administration; property maintenance codes and enforcement; and lakes management. This position will also play a vital role in special projects geared toward moving Fairmont forward. The CD Director will oversee five full-time employees and work with authorities/commissions as well as various community stakeholders. This role therefore requires an individual to be an engaged, strategic, progressive leader who is passionate about influencing the organization and community for the better.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in community planning, economic development, public administration, or related field
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in planning, economic development, community development, housing, and/or redevelopment, including some supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certifications
  • Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) or Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) certifications
  • Master’s degree in community planning, economic development, public administration, or related field

Job Title: Police Chief
Salary Range: $115,585.60 – $146,328.00/year

The City of Fairmont is looking for a Police Chief. Reporting to the City Administrator, the Police Chief serves as a key advisor in public safety matters and is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, and operational effectiveness of the Fairmont Police Department. The typical work hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday with the requirement to fulfill additional hours and shifts as needed.

Minimum qualifications
– Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Peace Officer in the State of Minnesota or successfully pass POST out-of-state officer or military reciprocity program.
– Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, or related field.
– At least 10 years’ full-time law enforcement experience including at least five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory or administrative position.

Preferred qualifications
– Documented experience in progressive law enforcement leadership with a focus on responding to the needs and issues of a community.
– Experience with problem solving based upon effective allocation of department resources to address the needs of a community.
– Experience with the implementation and administration of various professional law enforcement focus programs or projects.

Successful candidates must also possess a valid MN Class D Commercial Driver’s License (or be able to obtain it within 30 days of employment) as well as a good driving record. Additionally, they must be able to pass a physical evaluation, psychological evaluation, and thorough background investigation if selected as the final candidate.
