Water Operator
Pay Range: $34.62/hour – $36.48/hour

The City of Fairmont is looking for a water operator to operate its class A surface water treatment plant. The selected individual will be responsible for monitoring chemical doses, laboratory testing, equipment calibration, and system monitoring to ensure high quality water is distributed to the residents of the community. The selected candidate should be a motivated, self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications for this position include a two-year vocational degree in Water Treatment and Operation or its equivalent and possession of a class D water operator’s license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. A combination of education and experience may substitute for the two-year degree. A class C water operator’s license or higher is preferred.

Director of Public Works/Utilities – City Engineer
Salary Range: $113,651 to $143,852
Hiring Range: $113,651 to $126,21

The Director of Public Works/Utilities – City Engineer coordinates, plans, and provides direction to all Public Works, Public Utilities, Engineering, and Airport functions of the City consistent with City policy, federal and state regulations, and objectives developed and/or approved by the City Council and/or the Public Utilities Commission. This is a highly responsible position requiring good judgement and ability to act independently.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, five years of experience in Civil Engineering or a related field preferably in municipal operations, and three years of supervisory experience. Ten years of experience in Civil Engineering/Public Works in municipal operations, Minnesota Registered Professional Engineer, and five years of experience in leading and operating public utilities preferred.
