Community Development Director

The City of Fairmont is looking for a Community Development Director. This position is responsible for organizing and directing the full range of the City’s community development operations as they relate to planning, zoning, and economic development; residential and commercial ordinance administration; property maintenance codes and enforcement; supervision of Community Development Department personnel; development and implementation of a Lakes Management Plan; involvement in other special plans, projects, and authorities/commissions; and other duties as assigned. The Community Development Director will report to the City Administrator.
Qualifications for this position include possession of a bachelor’s degree in community planning, economic development, public administration, or related field as well as five years of progressively responsible experience in planning, economic development, community development, and housing and/or redevelopment, including some supervisory experience. Preferred qualifications include American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certifications; Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) or Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) certifications; and a master’s degree in community planning, economic development, public administration, or related field.
The typical work hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Water Operator
Starting Wage: $35.74/hr – $45.23/hr Application Deadline: Open until filled
The City of Fairmont’s Water Treatment Plant is looking for a Water Operator. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining equipment at the Water Treatment Plant; maintaining infrastructure; assisting in gathering data, performing tests, and generating reports; and performing other related functions as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications for this position include the possession of a Class D Water Operator’s License (or the ability to obtain it within six months of hire) and a two-year vocational college degree in Water Treatment and Operation or its equivalent. A combination of education and experience may substitute for the two-year degree. Preferred qualifications include two or more years of experience working with municipal water/wastewater departments and a Class C Water Operator’s License or higher.
The typical work hours for this position are 12-hour rotating shifts starting at 6:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m., seven days a week.
